Who is Jan?
According to colleagues, Jan is a sweet old man who is (almost) always ready to help.
When did you start working at Voerman?
I started working here on July 1, 2010 and I haven’t regretted it for a moment.
What do you like about your job?
At Voerman, it feels comfortable, like being one big family. When a colleague is expecting a baby, I am called Grandpa to the new arrival. I am so grateful for that!
Where do you get your energy?
From ensuring that my colleagues get what they want to eat for lunch. Especially making sure that it is healthy and delicious so they can continue their work day full of energy.
Do you sometimes get strange requests for lunch?
No, nothing is ‘strange’ and everyone can ask for whatever they are in the mood to eat.
A common expression from Jan, with his Hague accent is, “if you don’t see it there, then open your mouth.“
How do you stay up-to-date with the catering trends?
I use my experience in catering and sometimes read trade magazines. But I really like it when people come to me with new ideas. You need to present variety and change, while also keeping the standard offerings that people rely on.
What do you like to eat?
Nothing special. Honestly I am not that interested in food for myself.
You turned 80 this year, if you were to choose between staying at Voerman for 2 more years or going to a new company with a brand new kitchen and the best appliances and innovations, what would you choose?
Voerman is the last company where I will work, and I am not going to leave until I decide to stop working altogether. As long as Voerman continues to want me to stay on, and as long as I keep enjoying my work here, I am not going anywhere!
