The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has amended the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) to require, as a condition for loading a packed container onto a ship for export, that the containers have a verified weight.
The new rules on container weighing went into effect internationally on July 1, 2016. Detailed information about rules and exceptions can be read in the official document published by the World Shipping Council.
